The other day the gov't released a report done by our security agencies on how "global warming" would effect world security...
it stated that if global warming would indeed occur that there would be "environmental refugees" leaving their homes in search of more agreeable weather conditions....Aren't most of us in Florida for that reason already?! To quote Nilsson..."goin' where the weather suits my clothes"...just check out my flip-flop suntan lines....
OK Ladies,  THIS is important....did you know that the trees in Brazil from which cocao (CHOCOLATE)!!!! is derived are threatened by some sort of viral disease? and BIG CANDY is just now getting around to putting money into research to cure/prevent the problem....First GAS...now CHOCOLATE..This might be more than any woman can take!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been a while since I've blogged, so I have some catching up to do.......
A couple of Fridays ago,  on my journey home..I heard of the death of Tim Russert, my compass on most things political because he got down to the nitty griity of most issues, with an amazing degree of journalistic integrity..(a rare commodity, as most talking heads would rather incite with their opinions, which all too frequently have little to do with the actual facts).
His insight, depth of knowledge and ability to make it understandable to those of us who don't have a law degree will surely be missed.
This news came on the heals of the death of the brother of  a friend, he had only started utilizing the services of Hope Hospice and took a sudden turn for the worse..having had some  experience with our local Hope Hospice a couple of years ago and the truly caring and wonderful services they provide, I wanted you to know about an event coming up that will benefit Hope Hospice..
Hogbody's First Annual Hot Wings Eating Contest..North Fort Myers will have one, Cape Coral another and the big.EAT OFF
will be on July 19th..in the Cape..call Debbie at 574-6600 for details!!!
QUINCINERA..It is a lovely word that rolls off the tongue. I attended my first quincinera that same weekend..
As all the children (my cousins and my cousins children)marry,  the extended family gets more and more culturaly diverse..
My first cousin Michael and his beautiful wife Lourdes had this fab affair for their daughter Lourdese.
Essentially, a grand birthday party for the Latina turning 15, with religious overtones where she promises her chastity till marraige in a  Cathlolic Mass, followed by one heck of a party...there are an assortment of traditions involved but the one that stood out for me was the choreographed waltz done by 8  teenage couples(all about the same age), and the committment they had to make to learn it and be involved in this full tux and gown affair.....Lourdes is a beautiful young woman on her way to one day we hope being Miss Florida!!  She already has a junior title...The video from Tito Puente' Jr. singing Happy Birthday to her from the stage at one of his concerts was an added bonus!
A SMOOTH WEEK ON THE AIR FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER VERY BUSY WEEKEND...
Last Saturday, the station helped  I>A>G..Art Gallery in Olde Naples celebrate their 3rd anniversay...Laurence Gartel, the father of digital media art was there as was the Ferrari Club..the art was great, the cars were great and Laurence was totaly endearing..
you can check him out at his website, Laurencegartelmuseum.com
Followed that up with "the dog whisperer"...the dog trainer who came to my home to "evaluate" my dog's owner protection "issues"...result....don't come knockin' at my door, these Pekes bite..can you read$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.she could..............
Saturday evening thoroughly enjoyed a fine dining experience at CHOPS..my first time there, they live up to their reputation!!
Sunday got out to the Casino in Immokalee to experience Vegas style slots...won a bunch and lost it all..but had fun and their restaurant has great burgers!
and for today..last but not least...
THE JAZZ ON THE GREEN GOLF TOURNEMENT!~
IT'S HAPPENING ON AUGUST 2ND AT THE PLANTATION...4 PERSON SCRAMBLE WITH SHOTGUN START...

Hey if truly unique art from all around the world excites you...be sure to join us at I A G Galleries...3rd Anniversary celebration..
IAG is on the corner of Gordon and Broad Ave in Old Naples..beautiful gallery by the way...we'll be out there along with the Sweet Collection  FERRARI  club..(they are works of art afterall!!!)hey I had a ferrari t-shirt once..... and digital media artist Laurence Gartel  on Saturday, June 21st...Art is doing very well as an investment.......
Jazz on the Green is 4 months away, they are doing a simultaneous art event..local artists and craftspeople can head over to jazzonthegreen.com for details.
Is it just me or has Netflix gotten a bit slow on the turn-around...now that they have that new box they want you to buy???
i wonder....
and lastly ...as an aging hippie, what with all the recession and inflation talk..does anyone out there remember..The Victory Garden  show on PBS, and Mother Earth News magazine?  In Chicago the city is turning derelict lots into vegetable gardens for the community..Maybe your gated community has a place for a garden and if you don't use the produce yourself it could be donated to local food banks and soup kitchens...
